For International Students Applying to Study

at Theological Institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church

International students applying to theological institutes of the Russian Orthodox Church must send all the documents 30 (thirty) days prior to the commencement of entry exams at a chosen institute.

The Commission considers applications from all foreign countries, except the countries of the CIS. Students from the CIS must send their documents to the institute of their choice directly.

International students can apply for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral programs.

Non-Russian speakers must attend a one-year Russian language course.

Required documents:

  1. A request on the name of the Commission’s Chairman written in accordance with the sample. A scan of the request, manually signed by the applicant, must be sent to the Secretariat of the Commission;
  2. A recommendation letter from the ruling bishop;
  3. A copy of passport;
  4. A copy of international passport. In case international and internal passports are the same document, its copies must be provided;
  5. Copies of all diplomas (including high school);
  6. An autobiography, written in free form. A scan of the autobiography, manually signed by the applicant, must be sent to the Commission Secretariat;
  7. A Curriculum Vitae, written in accordance with the current form. A scan of the CV, manually signed by the applicant, must be sent to the Commission Secretariat;
  8. A marriage certificate (for those who are married);
  9. A color digital photograph of size 35×45 mm.

Clerics of the Local Orthodox Churches who wish to continue their education at Moscow Patriarchate theological institutes must provide a chirotessia ordination certificate (for readers), a certificate of acceptance of monastic vows (for monks), a deacon/priesthood ordination certificate (for deacons/priests).
